HIV antibody test

Information about the test

We offer an HIV antibody test. The test is anonymous, which means you do not have to give your name. It is also free of charge. Your data will not be stored. Anyone who wants to know their HIV status can take the test. Please make an appointment.

Before the test, we will discuss important information with you.

• How can sexually transmitted infections (STIs) be contracted?
• How can you protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections?
• We will assess your risk together with you.

Please note:

• Women can be counselled by a woman and men by a man. Please let us know when you make your appointment.
• Deaf people can receive counselling with sign language interpreters (please arrange an appointment by email).
• Migrants can receive counselling with interpreters. Please clarify this when making your appointment.

Important information about the HIV antibody test

For the test, blood will be taken from your arm. You will receive the results in a personal consultation after about a week. It takes some time for the HI virus or antibodies to become visible in the blood. This period is called the "diagnostic window".

• HIV antibody test: You should wait at least six weeks after a risk situation before taking the test. Otherwise, the result could be incorrect.
• HIV rapid test: You must wait three months after a risky situation to get a reliable result.

Test results
Positive: You have been infected with HIV.
Negative: You have not been infected with HIV in the last six weeks.
