Dental health

We are the dental service for the city of Bremen and help keep the teeth and mouths of children and young people healthy. We examine teeth, gums and tongues in schools and kindergartens. We prepare reports and expert opinions. Together with the State Working Group for Youth Dental Care in Bremen (LAJB), we provide information about the oral health of children in Bremen.

What do we do?

  • Examinations in schools and kindergartens:
We examine the teeth of children in schools and kindergartens. Parents are informed in writing in advance. If treatment is necessary, parents receive a letter with a recommendation to see a dentist, orthodontist or speech therapist.
  • Dental health reports:
We collect the results of the examinations. We evaluate the results anonymously and compile reports. These help to improve oral health in Bremen. We also participate in nationwide studies on oral health.

  • Participation in events:
We take part in events to provide information about dental health.

  • Expert opinions:
We prepare expert opinions for authorities and health insurance companies to clarify whether the costs of dental treatment will be covered.

Who can use our services?

Participation in dental examinations in schools and kindergartens is compulsory for primary and secondary school pupils. However, parents can object.
We only prepare expert opinions for people who receive benefits under the law on assistance, the Social Security Code or the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act. If an appointment is necessary, we will arrange one.
