We monitor the quality of drinking water because it is our most important food. Drinking water quality must also been maintained at fairs.

The drinking water quality is guaranteed by wesernetz Bremen up to the standpipe of the hydrant and complies with the requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance. From the standpipe to the taps, the carneys themselves are responsible for the drinking water quality.

Studies have shown that drinking water at fairs and events can be highly contaminated with bacteria at the tap. These bacteria can cause diarrhoea, among other things.

During assembly, disassembly, transport and storage of the hoses, bacteria can accumulate on the inner hose walls and multiply. The next time using the hose, these bacteria are present in the drinking water. In addition, hoses and hose couplings are often exposed to external contamination through contact with soil, water, humans and animals. Longer periods of standing water in the hoses and high temperatures, especially in summer, pander the growth of bacteria in the water.

  • Only hoses and pipes that have been inspected in accordance with "DVGW W 270" and "KTW" and show the certification marks may be used. They have a very smooth inner wall that is easy to clean. They are stable and can be disinfected easily. This means that bacteria have little chance of colonising and multiplying on the inner walls.
  • The hoses, pipes and couplings must been cleaned and disinfected before each use.
  • It is recommended to disinfect the entire pipe network after all connections have been made.
  • For hygiene reasons, the pipes should be as short as possible.
  • Connectors must not lie directly on the floor and must been covered.
  • The pipes must been flushed after long periods of inactivity, for example overnight.
  • After the event, the pipes must been emptied completely and stored in a dry and clean place.
  • The canisters must been filled with fresh drinking water every day before the market opens.
  • The canisters must been emptied daily after the market closes.
  • Canisters, pipes and pumps must been cleaned and disinfected regularly.
