School medical examination

We check the health of children who are starting school or are already at school. We advise parents on important decisions relating to school.

What do we do?

  • The school entrance examination serves to check the child's state of health and age-appropriate development. It is a compulsory examination. Parents are advised on health issues and on choosing a suitable school, for example. The child's vaccination status is also checked.
  • The transfer examination is an examination for children who have attended school abroad. It is a mandatory examination. It takes place after registration with the school authority.
  • Special examinations and consultations. We offer examinations for children in work-study programmes, for example. The school can arrange an examination for children and young people who have not been attending school for a long time. These examinations help to ensure that all children can participate fully in lessons.

What is the legal basis?

This examination is regulated by the Bremen School Act (BremSchulG), the Act on Public Health Services in the State of Bremen (ÖGDG Bremen) and the Bremen School Administration Act (BremSchulVerwG).
