Obtain several quotes before hiring someone. Always sign a written contract. This should include the following points:

• Professional qualifications
  Obtain written confirmation that the pest control expert is qualified. They must have the appropriate training and comply with the necessary safety regulations.
• Type and location of the infestation
  The contract should specify exactly which pests are to be controlled and in which areas.
• Control method
  Ask for an explanation of the product that will be used and how it will be applied. The contract should also specify how often the treatment must be repeated. Rooms that have been treated should be marked with warning signs.

Inform all residents before treatment. Rooms must be cleaned and cleared of food, plants and animals. Ensure that rooms are ventilated after treatment and are not used for the specified period of time.

Any remaining product, bait and dead animals must be disposed of safely and properly.

After treatment, ask for a report confirming that the treatment was successful.
