Notifiable infectious diseases

We monitor notifiable infectious diseases. We work together with other authorities, clinics, laboratories and doctors. We also work with institutions in other federal states and at federal level. Our goal is to stop the spread of infectious diseases.

What do we do?

  • We find out where the disease comes from and who else is affected.
  • We educate those affected about the disease and provide them with information.
  • We look for the causes and give those who are ill advice on how to behave and recommendations on hygiene.
  • In some cases, we contact the family doctor and monitor the course of the disease.
  • We identify who has been in contact with the sick.
  • If necessary, we carry out investigations in the surrounding area to find the source of infection or discover further cases. The investigations take place at the health authority or at registered doctors' surgeries. All data collected is reported to the state surveillance authority in accordance with data protection regulations (or anonymously).

What is the legal basis for this?

Our work is based on the Infection Protection Act. This law specifies which diseases must be reported. It also gives us permission to take measures to protect the population
