Medical care

for refugees

We, the Migration and Health Department, take care of the health of refugees who are new to Bremen. Our goal is to help them quickly and provide them with good care. We pay attention to special life situations and cultural backgrounds.

What do we do?

  • During the initial medical consultation, we determine whether you are healthy and do not have any infectious diseases.
  • Based on the Bremen model, we can treat acute and basic complaints and provide further assistance with health problems.
  • We offer vaccinations to protect you from diseases.
  • We use a video interpreting system so that we can communicate in multiple languages.
  • Pregnant women are referred to gynaecologists, and children to paediatricians.

Who can come to us?

Our services are available to all refugees who are new to Bremen. As soon as you are in one of the initial reception centres in Bremen, you have access to our services. The initial examination is mandatory and free of charge for you.

What is the legal basis?

We carry out initial examinations in accordance with Section 62 of the Asylum Act and Section 36 of the Infection Protection Act in order to rule out infectious diseases.
