Tuberculosis surveillance

We work to ensure that tuberculosis (TB) is detected and treated. Our goal is to stop the disease and protect people's health. We work closely with the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and other doctors and institutions.

What are we doing?

  • We receive reports of tuberculosis cases. We check these reports and forward them to the RKI.
  • We work with clinics, laboratories and other institutions to provide patients with the best possible care and prevent the disease from spreading among the population.
  • We advise schools, nurseries and care homes if people there have contracted tuberculosis.
  • We support people with tuberculosis throughout their treatment and monitor the course of their therapy.

Who can come to us?

People who have tuberculosis can contact us. People who have been in close contact with someone who has tuberculosis can also contact us. We also work with institutions such as schools, nurseries, care homes and clinics if cases of tuberculosis occur there.

Who has to report tuberculosis?

  • General practitioners, clinics, laboratories
  • Care facilities, homes
  • Prisons
  • Alternative practitioners

What is the legal basis?

Our work is based on the Infection Protection Act. This law stipulates that tuberculosis is a notifiable disease. It specifies who must report the disease and what measures must be taken to stop its spread.
