Mammography screening helps detect breast cancer at an early stage. This programme has been in place in Germany since 2004. Since then, eligible women have been invited to attend screening every two years. From 1 July 2024, women up to the age of 75 will be able to participate.

The examinations do not take place at the Bremen Health Authority.
We organise the invitations to the screening. We send the invitations to women in Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Hamburg. Every woman receives an appointment for a screening near her home.

All women between the ages of 50 and 75 receive an invitation from us every two years and can take part in the examination without a referral. Your main place of residence must be in Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt or Hamburg.
The examination is free of charge for women with statutory health insurance. Women with private health insurance will receive an invoice and must clarify the costs with their health insurance provider.
