Frequently asked questions about the youth employment protection examination

The initial examination must be carried out no later than 14 months before the start of work.
The first follow-up examination takes place 9 to 12 months after the start of work if the young person is still under 18 years of age. After the initial examination, the young person receives a certificate which must be shown to the employer. After the follow-up examination, the doctor sends the certificate directly to the employer.

An examination authorisation form is required for the examination. Completed questionnaires must also be brought along. These forms are to be completed by the legal guardian and signed by both the guardian and the young person. The questionnaires are designed to assist the doctor during the examination.

The forms can be downloaded from the website of the Senator for Health, Women and Consumer Protection.

The examination authorisation certificate is given to the doctor during the examination.
The doctor needs it to bill the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians for the examination.

The certificate is issued by the Bremen Health Authority. This applies to young people who live in Bremen.
The young person or a legal guardian must appear in person and bring a valid identity card.

If lost, a new certificate can be obtained from the health authority. This must be collected in person.

Medical examinations under the Youth Employment Protection Act are regulated by the Youth Employment Protection Examination Ordinance (JArbSchuV). The ordinance contains forms (1–4) that must be completed by the doctor.
